Welcome to Soft Magnetic Materials 19

The 19th Soft Magnetic Materials Conference, SMM 19, was successfully held in Torino, Italy, from September 6 until September 9, 2009. The conference was organized by INRIM, the Italian Institute for Research in Metrology in collaboration with Politecnico di Torino and Università degli Studi di Torino.

The conference covered the following topics:

  1. Basic problems, magnetization processes, domain studies, micromagnetics.
  2. Grain-oriented and non-oriented electrical steels.
  3. Fe-Ni, Fe-Co, amorphous, and nanocrystalline alloys.
  4. Soft ferrites, powder cores, and composite materials.
  5. Thin films, metamaterials, novel and special materials.
  6. Magnetic measurements and instrumentation.
  7. Transformers, motors, actuators, and other power applications.
  8. Sensors, high-frequency and electronic applications.
  9. Shielding, environment, and energy saving applications.

About 360 delegates from 35 countries participated in the meeting. Of them, nearly 90 were student participants. We thank all colleagues who contributed to the success of the Conference with their active participation.

Conference related papers will be published in the February 2010 issue of the IEEE Transactions on Magnetics. Contributed and invited papers will be up to four and seven printed pages, respectively.

At the end of the meeting it was announced that SMM 20 will be held in Athens, Greece, in 2011.

Our best wishes to the organizers of SMM 20 for a most successful meeting.
